Project Press Release is nearly complete. Progress is moving along, so I'm allotting myself a lunch break. Like an actual workday.

This is probably the best Monday I've had all year.

This place is a ghost town on the weekends, but I thought I'd make a small post anyway.

My dad got more MST3K through Netflix, so we'll be taking in Final Justice later today. I'm pretty sure I've not seen that one.

Also, I'm fairly sure I caused myself hypothermia yesterday, so despite the sunshine I think I will be staying in today. (I'm fighting the sniffles besides.)

I made it my goal to finish gleaning email addresses of all of the editors, managing editors & feature editors to which to send the press release I mentioned earlier by the end of the weekend. As far as I can tell, I'm about halfway there. The task is more tedious than I would have imagined. Still, I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The side effect of the above task is that I'm discovering that Michigan has some interesting & odd names for towns. I like Fruitport. Descriptive & to-the-point.

I worked pretty much day & night to meet Third Wednesday's deadline, which was yesterday. My initial plan was to continue evaluating through yesterday, but my body had other ideas. Sleep claimed me; I managed to eat a short snack in the evening before I succumbed to the bed once more.

I emailed my editor, asking if he wants me to continue evaluating the handful of batches I neglected to tackle. Chances are, he will. That will probably be my weekend project.

In the meantime, I am exhausted. Even now I want to return to slumber, after only an hour of wakefulness.

Third Wednesday will be among the periodicals featured in next year's Poet's Market. This pleases me greatly. (Getting our info to PM was one of the major tasks I have undertaken since assuming the role of Managing Editor.)

Next on my ambitious list is to generate possible subscriptions from libraries. This is not high priority compared to other aspects of my life (such as making a [paying] livelihood) but, once accomplished, I will feel like I've truly contributed to the magazine.

Speaking of contributing, TW is accepting poems, short shorts, short stories (up to 1500 words) and artwork (color cover, B&W throughout) for its Winter 2010 issue. Submit up to 5 poems or short shorts (or 2 short stories) to submissions at thirdwednesday dot com. Deadlines are rolling.

How is it that I didn't realize it was August already? netmouse had to clue me in.

This weekend will be all about TW, as I have put it on the back burner for the last two weeks. This will please my editor. SV will see some activity, too, but not nearly as much.

Third Wednesday is a quarterly seeking poems and short short fiction.

For poetry, length is open. All types of poetry are welcome, from formal to experimental. Quality is key. My editor says, "Emphasis is placed on the ideas conveyed, craft and language, beauty of expression, and the picture that extends beyond the frame of the poem."

For fiction, anything up to 1500 words.

Black & white artwork is also sought.

Payment is one contributor's copy plus a small honorarium ($3 to $5 if your work appears in our pages).

I met my editor at Borders this afternoon to pick up my copy of Third Wednesday. I'm pleased with the result--I was afraid that it being saddle-stapled instead of perfectly bound would have a huge desultory effect. I still hold out hope that future issues will be perfect-bound.

Were I in charge of layout, several things would be different. But, as a mere poetry editor, I can only be pleased that so much good work is in the issue, and that there are zero typos (a failing in my own editorial duties a decade ago).

Much good work. I especially like Corey Ginsberg's "A.D.D. Ars Poetica" and Marc Maurus' "Egg Tooth."
