I suppose the subject header should read "publishing update", because I realized recently that I haven't said much about my submission efforts lately.

Basically, I didn't submit much of anything this year until late summer/early fall.

It's been a good season.

174 pieces out to 44 markets. 9 of those pieces are currently simultaneously submitted.

I've gotten to the point where my goal now is not just to publish but to try to enter work in markets with low acceptance ratios. However, my main criteria when submitting are the markets' turnaround times. I'd much rather have as much quality work in circulation than to have it clutched by journals that disallow simultaneous submissions but have over a 100-day wait for a response.

This has meant that lately I've been submitting to online magazines rather than print publications. I'd rather the latter for my CV, but not if the response times are unreasonable.
