I grew up in Rural Ohio (Darke) and I predict - you'll be highly annoyed.
Historically, the (D) counties are the "metro" counties. For example, Montgomery County is very (D) while Darke, Mercer, Warren, Butler (surrounding "rural" counties) are heavy (R)'s
If you do canvas (and don't get me wrong, that's a good thing) I'd shy away from knocking on a farmhouse door in Darke County and proclaiming Kerry your personal savior.. you'll be in for a big suprise - these people work for a living, hard, hard work. They've got blisters to show for such work, not big bank accounts.

The facts are clearly moot.
