I can't take pleasure in anyone's death. And, after the media blitz of this weekend, maybe I do feel a little bad about Reagan's passing. Maybe that's the point of all these newscasts.

But I do feel sad, because I feel it is a chapter of my life coming to a symbolic close. As I was born in 1975, I don't have any memories of a Carter White House. All of my childhood memories that I generally have access to took place during the Reagan years.

Many people are taking the time to complain about how awful those years really were. I don't doubt it. But I don't remember it. I was seven years old when the big recession hit. What was I doing? I was fawning over Prince and Michael Jackson.

The Reagan years may have been sucky for adults, but in my opinion was relatively great for kids. Ours was the first generation to get video games and computers. And the music was kid friendly.

You should write a poem about "The Reagan Years."

Nah. It'd be a poem that didn't have much to say, which is to say that it wouldn't be much of a poem. :)

Even though I am a dedicated liberal I have a soft spot for Regean. Anybody who could negotiate the end of the cold war is awesome in my book, no matter how fucked his domestic economic policy was.
