It was okay. It's reminiscent of ABC's "Flashforward" in terms of style, yet "Flashforward" at least has this cataclysmic beginning to sustain the viewer's attention through slow periods. "V" doesn't have that yet (despite a long fight scene).
I read a review of "V" in this week's TV insert of the local paper. The stars admit that the beginning is a bit slow, but they try to get across their continued excitement for the project. I'm willing to give it a bit more time to ramp up; even "Babylon 5" took some to get going, and it ended up being my favorite sci-fi show of all time.
V was a TV movie/pilot that debuted in the early '80s. It's what one might term a cult classic. It was the predecessor to such TV shows as "Alien Nation". The basic premise is that an alien race, called the Visitors, arrive at Earth, promising to cure the planet's ails in exchange for unnamed resources later.
V spun off "V: the Final Battle" and another "V" installment, but those were considered to be flops in terms of melodramatic acting and subpar writing. But writing has come a long way in the intervening years, and the actors in the current incarnation have already proven their bona fides in other shows.
I loved the original when it first aired--I was eight or nine years old, and the storyline really captured my attention. I'm more than willing to let the remake take a bit of time to develop.
