Abortion Doctor Shot to Death in Church -- NYT article

The culture wars have gotten bloody again. This actually shocks me--I thought this era was behind us and that we had grown somewhat with respect to the issue of abortion.

Edit: This post at feminist makes the point that Dr. Tiller was one of two doctors in Kansas who would perform abortions, and the only one in the western part of the state. Access is now diminished for those women whose right it is to choose whether to bring their pregnancy to term.

I live a couple of blocks from an abortion clinic, and regularly see pro-life protesters there, sometimes carrying those disgusting pictures of aborted fetuses that were more commonly seen in the 80's and 90's.
Then again I'm in central Virginia, and that shooting was in Kansas; I guess it does still depend on where you live.

I remember going to Planned Parenthood for STD testing a couple years back; protesters were out then, too, with those photos. I wondered if they knew that other things go on at PP besides abortions. Also, isn't there some better effort they could do, like write a congressperson or a letter to the editor? That type of protesting changes neither a woman's mind nor policy.
