Hmm. The berries I picked at the park are either black raspberries or blackberries. The leaves I've seen in pictures of edible fruits are very similar for both, as are the fruit themselves. I guess the only way to be sure is to taste one. Nevertheless, they are going into the next pie (which will be mainly mulberries and blueberries--apparently a combination no one on the Internet has ever tried).

One of the most wonderful things I ever had was a slice of mulberry-rhubarb pie. A little shop a few minutes down the river from home used to make those during the summer. Yum.

I was flipping through pie recipes last night and came across quite a few for mulberry-rhubarb. It seems to be a favorite for many. I have yet to fully appreciate rhubarb (I like strawberry-rhubarb pie, but that's about it), but my tastes may change as I age.

As for my concoction, it is in the oven at this very moment. In about an hour and thirty minutes (post-cooling), I should have a very nice slice of pie. If it turns out well, I'll post the recipe.

the fruits are incredibly different if you know what to look for. Blackberries look like little footballs. Rasberries are slightly smaller than blackberries and look like little french beret, they pull off the plant like a little hat and you can actually stick the tip of an eraser up where the fruit pulled off the plant.

In terms of seasons, mulberries ripen first, then raspberries then blackberries, we are right in the middle right now, when both raspberries and blackberries are out.

Yes, I realized after I tasted one that they were raspberries. Thank you for the info--I will remember that the next time I go berry picking!
