That’s Not Accurate: White House Alters Transcript of Press Briefing
There is a brewing controversy about what exactly was said at the White House press conference on October 31. Everyone agrees NBC’s David Gregory said this:
Q Whether there’s a question of legality, we know for a fact that there was involvement. We know that Karl Rove, based on what he and his lawyer have said, did have a conversation about somebody who Patrick Fitzgerald said was a covert officer of the Central Intelligence Agency. We know that Scooter Libby also had conversations.
Congressional Quarterly and FNS both transcribed Press Secretary Scott McClellan’s answer as "That’s accurate." The White House transcript lists McClellan’s answer as "I don’t think that’s accurate."

A mistake, perhaps? Apparently not. The White House communications office contacted two private concerns that provide transcripts of White House briefings, each of which accurately transcribed Scottie's "that's accurate" response, to urge them to change their transcripts to conform to the White House lie. Both declined.

Nov. 9th, 2005 05:36 pmPennsylvania Voters Reject 'Intelligent Design'
Voters came down hard on school board members who backed a statement on intelligent design being read in biology class, ousting eight Republicans and replacing them with Democrats who want the concept stripped from the science curriculum.
The election unfolded amid a landmark federal trial involving the Dover public schools and the question of whether intelligent design promotes the Bible's view of creation. Eight Dover families sued, saying it violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

Nov. 9th, 2005 07:24 pmAstonishing House of Commons Vote
I have just been listening to one of those historic debates in the House of Commons that make it compulsive viewing.
The debate and vote was on a piece of anti-terrorism legislation which would allow a suspect to be held without charge for ninety days.
Tony Blair refused to compromise last week against signs that many in his own party were opposed to the legislation. With Labour rebels combining with the Lib Dems and the Conservative Party, the vote was expected to be close
The vote has now been taken. THE GOVERNMENT AND TONY BLAIR HAS BEEN DEFEATED. Defeated by a huge margin of 31.
[...] Tony Blair has lost his authority and it is an authority that will no longer carry the House of Commons into supporting another Iraq adventure. George Bush may still have a friend but he no longer can view the UK as a reliable ally in his aggression.

Here is The Guardian's take on it.

The relevant part is at the end:
As DailyKos put it: "For the record, senators swore in the baseball players testifying at the steroids hearings, the tobacco execs testifying in the 90s, and Jack Abramoff when he recently testified."
The relevant part is at the end:
Even before the remarks got started, Democrats and Republicans debated whether the executives should have to swear to tell the truth before the panel.
Alaska Republican Stevens, head of the Senate Commerce Committee, rejected calls by some Democrats to have the executives sworn in, saying the law already required them to tell the truth.
Hawaii's Inouye, the ranking Democrat on the committee, said the CEOs should want to testify under oath.
"If I were a witness I would prefer to be sworn in so the public knows what I was about to say is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth," he said. "If I were a witness I would demand to take the oath."
