The one about the Hitler poem is troubling, not because the boy delighted in taking a ghoulish perspective, but that people are so up in arms about it. Teenage boys love Edgar Allen Poe, slasher movies, etc. It's not surprising the kid would be fascinated by taking on the persona of Hitler in the poem. Should it have been published? I don't know. It wasn't that good of a poem, frankly. But I'm troubled, in general, about how much censorship of children's writing goes on in the US, and now I see it's in the UK, too. We're mind policing and teaching kids that it's not even OK to think and write about certain things. That's crazy.
