He's a terrorist then, poor guy. I always thought he seemed like such a nice, well-spoken guy. He had impeccable table manners too. (I'm in sarcasm mode today)
Well, he did run the armed wing of the ANC in the 60s, which fought a guerrilla war against the South African government with Communist support. Just as with the mujahideen, whether someone is a terrorist or a 'freedom fighter' to the government rather depends on who they're friends with at the moment, rather than on the actual morality of their cause ;)
It's not terribly surprising in the context of the Cold War that he was put on the list. I suppose it's not too surprising they don't clean the list properly too, seeing as most guerrillas don't end up becoming international statesmen (at least, not the type the US likes, as opposed to say Fidel Castro).
