Kenya violence escalates as poll results trickle in: Demonstrators loot shops and burn homes amid anger over slow returns -- This is not good. But (and not to disparage their situation) this goes to show (as well as the situation in Pakistan) that democracy is a grassroots movement and cannot be forcibly brought upon a people by the barrel of a gun.

Wow, thanks for the link about The Naked Face. I had to make myself keep going a couple times, but I'm really glad I did. (Not least for the arc of the opening and closing incidents to the article.)

This ties in with what I'm trying to learn in my photography, how to get beyond "camera face" -- the face we put on when the camera comes up for a snapshot. I just read last night about Guillaume Duchenne, in Train Your Gaze (http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-9782940373376-0).

Thank you for posting the 50 Most Loathsome People in America. By the time I got to the end I was laughing so hard that tears were streaming down my face. Our office almost became a scene from Mary Poppins as my co-workers expected me to float to the ceiling any minute!

Hmm. The last I heard from early results, Kibaki was almost certain to lose. And now it's suddenly becoming a close election the incumbent government might even win?
