The reading went really well! I made mistakes less than a handful of times. (For example, I said "a teal" instead of "a seal [against the tide]"--I was getting ahead of myself.)

Most of the people in the audience were friends: [livejournal.com profile] dionysus1999, [livejournal.com profile] sarahmichigan, [livejournal.com profile] simianpower, [livejournal.com profile] lameautarch and K. ([livejournal.com profile] meecie?) all came out to support me. I appreciate their time, especially [livejournal.com profile] simianpower, since I know he doesn't enjoy poetry that much. ;)

Lauren said she'd feature me again next year and would forward my name to some organizers in Detroit. My response? "Cool."

Well, I try not to judge people.

Maybe we're using "judge" in two different sense, but I judge people all the time, unapologetically. If you don't judge people, you're likely to get screwed. I even judge people on first impressions, because they're usually correct. I'm willing to give people a second chance to give a different impression (maybe they were having a bad day), but, in general, my initial intuition about someone is right about 80 percent of the time.

For instance, by her actions, I judged that Lauren is flaky, doesn't care about promptness or other people's time too much, and is emotinally needy and nervous if people don't respond as enthusiastically as she'd like. I further make the judgement that I won't likely attend any poetry events where she's heavily involved because she'd drive me up the wall.
