Where has all the time gone? Amazing.
Is there darkness in reality? Do we perceive darkness because we need it? Because, due to our solar cycle, it is natural? To a blind man, is there need for darkness? Is there finally harmony between darkness and the light?
It is cold this morning. Very. :) I am pretty bundled up, too--two layers of clothing, gloves, a jacket, and my throw blanket. It's mighty crisp.
But it's gorgeous. There's a light fog, almost like mist. In fact, all the metallic surfaces all around glisten with early, early morning dew. All I can hear are the hollows of old machinery and farmhouses, and off in the distance I know there are cars making their way on the interstate. They sound like low flying airplanes. And the sky, almost imperceptibly, is growing bluer by the moment. Already, I see hints of the sun in the sky. Or, perhaps, it is simply the glow of streetlights far in the distance.
People just want to use, use, use this place. But we are this place. And when we use it, we are the ones getting used. When we abuse it, we are the ones getting abused. I never identified so much, or so earnestly, with environmentalists in my life. Every sound is a wonder, every sight a gem. We are so lucky to be in this world and to be able to look out upon it and enjoy it for just what it is.
Isn't this what it means to be at the top of the food chain? We don't have to worry about predators, anymore, except of course the ones within ourselves. Here, at this point, all we should be doing is marveling at the splendor that is the universe. Instead, we bicker as to its semantics.
We all should appreciate life, and the means by which we are here. Life is amazing, evolution even more so. How is it that we have come so far in our journeys? And in so little cosmic time? Truly, 40,000 years is but a second to the whole of the universe.
We are the universe spying upon itself. We should be appreciating it more, and exploiting it less. We owe ourselves that much.
