So... how about that Supreme Court nominee?

A feint. shrubjr. knows there's no way she's getting by the committee and is thus throwing the liberals a bone so they ease up on him a bit. His next nominee will be the real deal.

ain't gonna work, I don't think.

I was just thinking: Does Bush have the political capital to push through a non-moderate nominee? If Harry Reid stood up and said the Dems were filabustering to prevent another rat in the culture of corruption from building its nest, who's side would the American people be on? It seems like they couldn't be labeled obstructionists at this point. Or do I just read too much liberal punditry?

should be interesting to watch.

Even if she's a feint, she'll be further evidence of GW's poor decisionmaking skills to use against any follow-up nominee.

it seems like "if i offer someone they don't know, they can't hate her." and choosing someone so close to him seems.... nepotistic?

and while i am glad they are considering a woman, at the same time they/he seem(s) to be focusing on her accomplishments not as a lawyer or person, but as a woman. first woman leader of blah, in the top 50 women lawyers of blah.

i am not a politico, far from it, but from what i've heard on NPR, it all seems a bit hokey.

How about that Nominee?

I heard she did really well in the NBA playoffs. Took the Winston Cup from those other players to score a touchdown. Then she did her Home run victory dance.

Maybe, maybe not. He did appoint a guy with only two years' judicial experience as the Chief Justice. Appointing someone with no experience as one of the lesser justices is a logical next step.

They thought maybe Roberts was a feint too. Guess not.

Not to say she isn't, I just doubt it.

It's this standard Republican/conservative/right-wing/neocon/whatthefuckever tactic of appointing, nominating, or otherwise running a woman for a political position and when she's opposed by the left for some undesirable trait or other, accusing us of not meaning what we say when we say we want women to have a greater role in the public sphere. Of course they completely overlook the fact that we believe women should have a greater role in the public sphere where qualified to do so--in other words, among equally qualified candidates, women should have an equal chance at any given job. Of course it'd make them look bad if they actually, I dunno, accurately represented the arguments of the left... so...

How 'bout Georgie-Porgie puts us all out of our misery and dies from a coke overdose? And accidentally gasses all his cronies while high as a kite before he goes?

Yes, I'm feeling evil. I could do with a few dozen well-timed fatal heart attacks right about now.

le sigh.

Think about it this way: the people in the White House are the only ones who knows what she really thinks about abortion, torture, and privacy. She's not on record with statements about any of that, so there is no real meat for the opposition to sink their teeth into.

Her nomination scares me.

Reading through the rest of the comments in this thread, I'm now confused... the left are finding fault with her? Interesting. I had not heard that. That's what I meant by "throwing the liberals a bone," because the liberals-in-wolf's-clothing to whom Bush normally caters loathe this woman. (I believe Michelle Malkin actually called for her death recently.)

Michelle Malkin's a liberal???

I find it hard to fathom that a liberal would ask for anyone's death penalty--or, if they would, it wouldn't be for political beliefs.

Uh, no, she's not. I had to Google her and make sure. She's got Coulter's books advertised on her blog, for Pete's sake.

Both Malkin and Coulter "think" with their emotions rather than any form of reason. Neither is a conservative, nor are the religionists sitting in office.

That doesn't make them liberal. And frankly, conversely, I have zero trust for any politico who can't balance emotion and reason rather than cutting emotion out entirely.
