Thirteen Blackbirds is the online equivalent to the poetry group that meets every fortnight in the Ypsilanti/Ann Arbor area. At the meetings, we bring along poetry (usually assignments from the previous meeting), read poetry of published authors, and talk about why poetry interests, moves and excites us. The group started late last summer at Borders in Ann Arbor and has since moved to a residence in Ypsi.

Online, I hope that members will take the biweekly assignments and post drafts here. For those who meet at the real life Thirteen Blackbirds, this will give us extra familiarity with the pieces before we meet so the commentary at the meeting might be more in-depth. For those who aren't able to meet with us in person, still feel free to do the assignments and post them. It's all about the feedback.

You can also post poems by other writers (as long as acknowledgement is given) and other pieces you may want members to critique. The Muse doesn't always follow what's been given to her as an exercise.

So, as a starting question: Why do you love poetry?

a release of the repressed
an express of pressed emotions
a motion to remember, rekindle, remark
a lark of lunacy
a song to the sun
a waltz down memory
a lost and found childhood run

Absolutely. I'm not sure where I grabbed it.
