Aug. 24th, 2005 11:31 amThere sure have been a lot of plane crashes lately.
Pat Robertson is an idiot. A dangerous idiot.
There is still hope for the separation of church and state.
Here's your next scandal, on a plate.
Is the awareness of pain the beginning of self-awareness? What is the debate about, again?
Just a reminder of how far we've come and how far we still need to go.

Date: 2005-08-25 06:23 am (UTC)So (not an indifferent so, just a proclamative so), some bases and other facilities are going to shut down, some revenue is going to go away as a result, some jobs and etc. are going to be lost as a result of that; I don't feel and never have felt that anyone should be dependent on a military base for a job, and I say that despite having been in the Air Force for a couple of years, having parted with the Air Force on less than amicable terms, not being able to find work for 2 years after that (this was more than 10 years ago), and now having been out of work for 3+ years at this point, and if a bunch of people in this area are suddenly unemployed because DLI and NPS shut down, that's that many more people competing directly in my (potential) job market-
The need of the civilian sector of a population for jobs should not ever dictate the form, nature, or distribution of that population's military- as anti-war/anti-violence/anti-the present regime as I am, that much is just plain common sense in my book.
If we're going to make allegations of improper weighting in determining shutdowns- not that two wrongs make a right, but- then we should also investigate whether or not there was any canoodling going on in choosing the sites for those activities in the first place- eh?
