Random searches in New York subways are wrong.

London police killing a man at a subway station just because he was wearing a padded coat is wrong.

I saw a clip of Candace Miller saying that while she cares about the civil liberties of Americans, she doesn't care one bit about the civil liberties of terrorists. I care about the civil liberties of everyone. You deny them to one, you deny them to all.

I thought bobbies didn't carry guns. must have been the swat team.

you should have to be convicted (at the very least) before you lose any civil liberties, not just accused and arrested. by the current logic, Police can say "terrorist" and point at anybody and then kidnap them.

we should wait to find out what really happened in london before assuming they shot him just because of a padded coat. the bbc is reporting an account by an eyewitness who saw a bombbelt with wires sticking out of it on the guy. they're also reporting that they guy was being followed because the police had info that he was involved in the oval station bombing yesterday. i certainly think it's ok for the cops to shoot and kill a man if he's about to blow up a train otherwise, and there are some indications that is exactly what happened.

with love,
your civil-libertarian friend who rides the nyc subway every day

I was just saying, let's wait until we know what really happened before we decide whether this was a legal or illegal shooting.

OK, so now we know: it was definitely an improper shooting. I agree.
