I know very little about some of the people on my Friends list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say, "Ah, there's so and so - she likes snake oil and pillowcases."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal(s). And then, the ice weasels.

I always wear Nag Champa essential oil as fragrance, and that scent combines with the sandlewood scent of my mala beads and the lavender of my deoderent.

Now you know what I smell like. ^^

Ice weasels. :-P How about sheep? I named my LJ after Philip K. Dick's book, but I haven't read it. However, I have read his VALIS, and loved it. My interest in the idea of the android is really more an interest in my self: what is it, anyway?

The self is an elaborate illusion. But you know that already. ;)

A friend of mine recently loaned me a book of PK Dick's short stories, but I have yet to crack it. I have too many things on my bookshelf and not enough time to get to them.

I think you know me fairly well, but it always makes me sad that I'm not on your friends' list -- I'm one of the 30 people not worthy of reciprocity? I don't know why that is, but oh well.

Since you only know me through poetry, and the occasional political comment, you'd prolly be surprised to know that I play baseball constently, and some basketball and football; I'm a secret jock, but I don't talk sports, so I a lot of people on lj probably wouldn't guess. Also, Michigan is just about the only state I've never been in...skipped under it on the cross-country drive, and never went back. Also never been to: Hawaii, Alaska, or Oklahoma, but that doesn't relate.

It's not that I don't want new friends--in fact, I've been thinking about it for a while. But my friends list is unruly. I need to prune it back, but how to do that without offending anyone is difficult.

But you and [livejournal.com profile] pachamama are tres cool. So that situation has been remedied. :)

I write poetry (you knew that). I have an island in Minnesota, though I live in the UK. I play the cello sometimes. I have 3 kids and a fulltime job in senior academic management. I believe in friendship across age cohorts, that agnosticism is the only scientific stance on religion, that what adult folk do in the privacy of their bedroom is entirely no one's business but theirs (even if there are several of them and implements of destruction), and that the designated hitter rule sucks. I love my three kids more than anything, and my man and stepmom almost as much. I'm lefthanded.

and I notice you never friended me back....

Hey, I didn't know you were a lefty! I agree with you on everything accept the DH...I hate the DH, but I kinda like that there's a big difference between the AL and NL, and I like the NL-pride it lends, and all the arguments it sparks. I like college football's bowl game system for that same reason -- people underestimates the value of a good disagreement now ad then.

That's tough, but I'm sure there's something you don't know about me. Let me give it a try:

- My favourite scent is lavender.
- I grew up with a kind and non-yappy cocker spaniel named Nicki. (We had to put him to sleep when I was 10.)
- I headed a poetry group my senior year of high school, which was advised over by one of the librarians. I think I was a much better poet in high school. :)
- I can cross one eye while keeping the other straight ahead.

Well, before I tell you something about myself, here's a bit of an explanation of why I friended you. I read some of your poetry on [livejournal.com profile] ljpoets, and thought it was remarkable, so I thought I'd have a look at your journal. I found it refreshingly informative: a far cry from the journals of drama queens who couldn't write their way out of a paper bag. You always have such interesting things to post--I wish I could say that about myself--and I'm really glad I was able to read your poetry and find your journal.

As to myself, I'm the gal who likes harps: listening to them, playing them (not that I have one of my own, though I do play those of friends) and learning about how they're made. I'm also a tin whistle nut--

Pardon me; I accidentally clicked on the "post comment" link before I was finished. I think I was just going to say that I'm a Celtic/medieval music fiend. There's a successful harpist in the US who, because of her almost magical virtuosity, is called the Harp Fairy. Given my ineptitude at playing the harp, I always call myself the Harp Troll.

I'm currently using the antics of a 10 week old kitten to alleviate my anxiety.
My parents are older, extremely conservative working-class Catholics. My mother started using the phrase "flip-flopper" beginning last November.
I'm addicted to Buffy the Vampire Slayer re-runs.
Sometimes I write poems (not often enough,) mostly I obsess about how sucktastic the poems I write are.

I find it much easier to talk about what I think, than who I am or what I do.

You pretty much know my politics, I imagine. :)

I have a wife, two step kids, two biological kids, and two puppies.

I've been trying to work a girlfriend in, too, though my wife generally doesn't like the idea.

I rarely watch TV. Typically the wife or kids have control. So, I sit at my computer and read or play games (currently Simcity4). Or, I work outside on assorted creative projects.

I got a degree in physics, though many of the details now elude me. It has helped me a great deal in my attempts to put together ideas.

That's enough for now. :)

We are both very politcally active, although only one of us has an arrest record for it. We both attend Capital Community College. I still use the phrase "I like strawberries. How about you?"

You probably guessed I was kinky long before I actually "came out" as into kink.

I gave up all delusions of privacy from the government when I went through the Green Card application process. These days, I'm far more concerned with what people do with the information about me than with whether they have it or not. But ethics seems to elude most people, so sometimes I still have to refuse to give out irrelevant personal information at cash registers.

I have learned from observation at work that women are just as prone to violence as men; they've simply been socialized to enact that violence in different ways.

I'm still prone to random acts of TMI. :-P

I love whatever kind of fruit is in season. I am married to a handsome man with a penchant for cross-dressing. He's beautiful.

I was initially intrigued by the sexy icon, and then I noted that you post relevant news and political links. Of what you post, that is what I find most interesting. I think your poetry is nice when I read it, but it reminds me that I havne't written much of anything that wasn't for work/school in over 2 years.

I respect science, but I never did very well with it in school. I had a terrible chemistry teacher (he also taught trigonometry, which is why I don't understand trig very well), so I don't really grasp chemistry very well. At the same time, I'm very interested in pharmacology, so I'm kind of learning about chemistry from a biological perspective in reverse. It's interesting.

I dated someone who was covertly into crossdressing. Once we went out in public (to RHPS, so it wasn't so startling). That was fun.

I don't know if you're still reading this thread, but:

When I was 14, I worked at the library and saved up enough money to fly myself to Texas for Christmas to be with the extended family. During Christmas dinner, my cousin Jenny got a piece of turkey lodged in her throat, and her boyfriend had to give her the heimlich maneuver. While I was down there, I ate menudo (the tripe soup, not the band) for the first, and last, time.
