The boss's 17-year-old son came in this morning and told me how he lost $1200 this weekend. Not wanting to presume anything, I asked if he actually lost it, and he said no, he'd gambled it away.

"Two weeks to make it, and less than two hours to lose it," he said.

I made a noise that indicated I appreciated his plight, but I certainly couldn't empathize.

He's a nice kid; I just don't think he considers class issues much.

I guess I could forgive him since he's young (and isn't he TOO young to be gambling, by the way?). I had a real estate agent tell me, when I was working the switchboard, that she spent about $12,000 per year on clothing, and that was what I was making in salary per year. She was old enough to know better. What a bitch.

I'm suddenly overcome with the urge to slap a total stranger.
