SCSU poem excerpt

After reading the poem, Southern Connecticut State University barred Edward Bolles, a Mexican, from his poetry class with professor Kelly Ritter.

Ritter told police that the poem contained veiled threats of sexual assault against her 3-year-old daughter.

It's pretty obvious he's talking about dating an adult daughter, not raping a toddler.

Too bad his poem was so rotten, though!

and they say poetry doesn't do anything. look! it can get you kicked out of college!

also, it can drain your bank account. cf. me.

what I want to know is why we need to know why Bolles is "a Mexican." Either someone failed Journalistic Writing or this is terribly important to the story. Is it because he's in Connecticut?

It's because the speaker in the poem is criticizing America from an outsider's perspective--thus the reason why the prof thought the poem was a veiled threat. (I don't think the poem is very threatening, but that's my opinion.)
