Yesterday, I get home and my dad hands me my mail. To my surprise, there's a lit mag in there with one of my poems in it! I'm guessing my acceptance letter was lost in the mail during the time where I was changing my address. "Careers" was the poem they accepted (they being first class).
Also, I took my car into Firestone yesterday, because my brakes were starting to concern me. Back in the winter, my brakes would do a stutter stop, which I thought might be because I was trying to stop on ice. But when I noticed it did that once everything had melted, I grew concerned. Then I noticed that it took me longer and longer to brake.
They were pretty booked last night at Firestone, but they took the car (without any promises of when they might get to it). I called early this morning to get a status, and the guy told me several technical terms that I can't remember, naturally. What I do remember is that he said I needed a complete rear brake overhaul, as something has leaked onto the rear brake drums. I have basically no rear braking power. Silly me, I thought the brake pads had just worn through.
I'm rather over a barrel, but I'm still trying to weigh my options. To be honest, I think my most pragmatic option is, retrieve the car from the shop and drive it for another two pay periods. I'll just have to stop driving it so much and continue to be as careful as I have been for the last couple of weeks.
