Driving to work today, I noticed that gas prices had jumped a quarter overnight.

$2.25 for a gallon of gas?? Jesus frickin.

$2.25 is nowhere near the toll a gallon of gas takes on the earth and various people. It's not close to the real price. We in the US are just used to the price being unrealistically low, like we deserve unlimited amounts of cheap gas more than anyone else on the planet...

I'm merely talking about what I can afford. I am not a defender of big oil.

I agree that increasing gas prices are weighty on the pocketbook. Excuse me if I seemed too righteous in my earlier comment. In terms of gas prices though, I do feel like we've had it too good for too long, as a society. Do you live in a place with other transportation options, or carpooling possibilities?

I grew up in Los Angeles and came to hate traffic, gas, and many things about cars. I vowed to live somewhere I didn't need a car. That's one reason I live in Boston. I haven't owned a car in my 33 years (though I've borrowed them).

They are at an all time high. I think they are just going to go higher. Cheap gas is having its last gasp right now.
What city do you live in? Do you have public transportation available?

I remember gas prices from when I was in high school. 95 cents.

I live in Ann Arbor, and there is relatively decent public transportation in the city proper. But I spend a lot of time in a neighboring town, and the bus service out there is absolutely awful. (I know, having had to take it when I lived there a year ago.)

I found $2.05 last night in Ypsi and immediately filled up, since everywhere else I'd seen was around $2.15+. $2.05 is GOOD?!

I usually bitch about the parking situation here and having to bike to work - but there are some pluses. :) Too bad I'm not willing to bike everywhere in town.

oneday you will get to Europe, and see what the real price of oil is.
In Australia we pay somewhere b/w American oil prices & European oil prices.
