I've always been confused by the paleolithic diet folks, because everything I've learned from anthro classes and evolutionary psychology research says that the hunter-gatherer diet is primarily based on berries, tubers, sometimes nuts, maybe insects. Meat is a luxury that you sometimes get and sometimes don't. They certainly didn't have refined carbohydrates, but they also weren't on Atkins.
