[livejournal.com profile] netmouse and I went out to dinner yesterday evening. She asked me what kind of food I wanted, and I was thinking, "Something Asian." She suggested several places, and we decided to go to Pacific Rim in downtown Ann Arbor. The place has a really nice decor, and the host even asked to take our coats. (When we got our menus, I knew things would be a bit pricy, as there were no prices listed.)

For an appetizer, we shared calamari with a sweet Thai dipping sauce. For dinner, I had a lovely dish of seared big eye tuna, while [livejournal.com profile] netmouse had duck, medium rare (I don't remember the exact name of the dish). And we even went so far as to order dessert--we shared the house specialty of warm chocolate cake (made from scratch, with a fudgy, gooey center), which came with coconut ice cream (really good!); and a banana roll, which came with normal vanilla ice cream. Sweet thing that [livejournal.com profile] netmouse is, she said dinner was her birthday present to me. I thanked her several times.

When I got home, I opened the birthday card my dad got me. It made me laugh. (He'd given it to me in the morning, and I asked him why he'd done so a day early. He shrugged. I have to wonder if he forgot when my birthday actually was!)

Today at work, I knew we'd be ordering lunch (as is the tradition in office settings). What I didn't know was that my coworkers would get me gifts! I've been here for less than a month! I was very surprised. I have a nice bouquet of peach-colored carnations in a neat vase, another floral arrangement, and a rustic picture frame. And a bottle of Coke! I was very surprised--I rarely get presents on my birthday. Hopefully I won't kill the flowers before their time.

Tonight [livejournal.com profile] dionysus1999, [livejournal.com profile] sarahmichigan and I are going to Seva, a restaurant in AA that serves only vegetarian fare. I've only been there once, but I could tell that their food was the bomb. Afterwards, there's been some talk of renting a movie. Knowing me, I'll probably be out until after 10:00.

So, yeah. Wow. This is much different than my birthday last year (though last year [livejournal.com profile] netmouse and [livejournal.com profile] murphyw were gracious and held a cake party, where we ate three different kinds of cake, listened to Cake, and played games). I'd mentioned to my sister that I was thinking about going out to dinner on Saturday, but I don't think I'll be up for that again for another couple of weeks, at least. :)
