Feb. 2nd, 2005 05:14 pmI like being a receptionist where you don't have to receive anyone.
The company I work for issues new construction loans. The vast majority of their clients are from out-of-state and so only contact the office via phone, fax or email. The owner (also the boss) said to me today that he didn't care "what she [the new receptionist] looked like, what kind of clothes she wears, just as long as she has a good phone voice." And I do. I guess it's a plus that I have a kind face and a classically styled work wardrobe.
The company is small--five people strong. It's all women except for the owner. He's on the young side of middle age, and he seems like a nice person all around (though the person training me says that he's absentminded and I'll have to watch out for that).
When I answer the phone, I don't have to give my name, nor do I have to ask for anyone's name. It's very simple, except for the name of the company ("Owner Builders Loan Services"--you try saying that several times a day).
So, yeah. Nothing too difficult. At least not yet.
Oh, but I scraped my arm something good! While training away from the desk, the phone rang, and I turned to run to get it. Ran smack into a doorframe. By then someone else had picked up the call. My arm smarted for quite a while. Hopefully it won't bruise. I'd forgotten how much I injure myself in an office setting.
