Air--Breath
Fire--Electricity/electromagnetic impulses
Water--Water
Earth--Flesh, matter
Spirit--Imagination

The 5 pagan elements and their correspondent attributes in a human being. These power the Bodymind. All of these elements work simultaneously, synergistically, and symbiotically, aiding one as one travels through time and space.

Imagination: The imagination not only reasons, it resonates--it creates. It creates possibilities by simply conjuring them. [Thus, the imagination is the center of all magick. 10/25/01] The imagination can manifest in many ways--verbally, imagistically, emotionally, psychically, physically.

Breath: the breath of life. Life begins with one's first breath, and ends with one's last. Air is in symbiosis with Earth once air becomes breath: the human body converts oxygen into carbon dioxide, because naturally we evolved along with plant life. Without this simple evolutionary relationship, both organisms would have been doomed.
We are oxygen vampires, in a way. We are wholly dependent upon the air we breathe. The Breath of Life is our anchor to existence.

Fire: the child of friction [pressure and heat]. In the body, our internal fire is generated by electricity and electromagnetic impulses. Where would we be without our nerves, our nervous system? We wouldn't be. Without them, we couldn't feel (be sensual). We wouldn't be human.
Fire in the human system is the Blessed Spark of Life, the electrified drive that keeps us going.

Water is water. 70% of the body is made up of water. It is one of the most benign substances we know. It is intrinsic to our existence.
Water is nature's lubricant. It greases our cellular gears and keeps things moving freely and healthily.
Water is balance. If there is a holy trinity in our universe, it would be H2O.

Earth is matter, the stuff of the universe that is gathered and assembled in our human bodies. We require infusions of environmental matter (minerals, for example) to keep us functioning and keen. Without this replenishment from nature, we would cease to exist. Our bodies would break down and once again become earth.

With these elements defined as such, and armed with Terence McKenna's Food of the Gods, I'd like to give my own interpretation of the Genesis Garden of Eden myth.

What do I want? I want to simply sit in a small religious building and prayerfully meditate, alone or with others. This would be the simplest joy. I cannot begin to express how often I return to this little image, this imaginary, hope-filled future.
