Supposely, according to this article, my household is "middle class". But they left out some things, such as the assumption that such an income really gives the standard of living that "middle class" used to mean. We can't afford a car, a house, or any substantial savings - what does it matter then, that we can buy a dvd for $20 bucks once in a while? Does having enough for an occasional frivilous small expenditure rank with my parents' version of middle class, where they owned a house and a car while raising 3 children?
No, I'm not bitter to be excluded from the middle class. Move to Europe or Australia? " none of which offers him health care, vacation, a pension or even a promise that today's job will be there tomorrow. " hmm, health promised by the government, even though our right-wing govn is slowly trying to wind back univeral coverage (Its an election issue over here). Pension is compulsory supplied by the govnmt as well.
