I realized last night that I don't have to run my poetry group like the other writing groups I attend. Mine can be more like a workshop. This realization made me very happy. Especially when I considered that I can't actually make money at this yet, because I don't know if I'm an effective teacher. But if I can do this well for a while, maybe I could make money at it sometime in the future. I need to find out if I can instruct.

But I'm more than happy to teach people about poetry for free.

I think I can pull it off.

This is going to require more preparation than I'd initially planned. But that's fine. I went to the library yesterday and checked out several books to help me lead the group, to give me ideas for exercises and such.

Dedication and preparation. I can do that.

I attend a group where we are asked to give what we felt the class was worth to us/that we could afford - at the end of the class.

Hmm. I don't know if Border's would be okay with me charging a fee.

I was thinking that if I did well with this group (which is open-ended), maybe I could do a closed-ended workshop at a library for a set number of weeks and actually work out fees and so forth. But that's far in the future. Like I say, I need to find out if I'm a good instructor.
