My mom handed me my mail this afternoon, and as I was expecting I received my check stub from my automatic deposit. But also I had an envelope from The Louisville Review. Not really having much of an idea of what could be inside the envelope, I opened it and found that they want to publish my poem "Invisible, Bare". I was so stunned. It's been about a year since I've sent out any of my poems for consideration. I checked my log and, sure enough, it's been about a year since I mailed my submission packet to them. So, yeah.

This gives me more confidence to start sending out poems again, because my skills really started to improve right around a month or two after that poem was written.

Anyway, here is the poem:

Invisible, Bare

They call this talking to yourself,
this vocalization of subconscious intent
tripping through the blubber of human
lips. Understand: there's a silent
partner in the air, fresh as a whispered
melody, tuned to the vibrations
of the throat. Your larynx
is a hive of honey. Every pause
draws the host nearer, each cessation
of thought. Again, the hum:
tones curved into words by mouth
and tongue, arrangement escaping like bees.
The silence hovers, awaiting a taste.
