Dymally's reaction is equally interesting- you would think that if he was going to make the accusation that the comment was made based on race, he would have checked first to make sure of the girl's race. He seems to have just assumed... and potentially to have hurt the chances of any effective follow-up. In politics, being right over here and wrong over there comes up that you're wrong all the way around.

I admit, I too thought the girl might be black. This is because the article in the Sacramento Bee did not mention the girl's race, and it's easier to imagine that a black girl has the name of an African deity than a Caucasian girl. But Egyptian myths belong to the world now, so that's what I get for assuming.
