I answered no to both, simply because we don't need a draft. Selective service is a mistake. You would think we would have leared our lesson after Vietnam.

Extending the draft to women would increase the resistance of the American public to the draft, and to the misbegotten war it is resumed to support.

And secondly, if there is to be a lottery of death, why should half of the population be arbitrarily excluded?

Because it's easier for one man to impregnate all the women who are left. Much easier to make up for that lost generation.

More like because our patriarchal society is afraid of the aftermath of dealing with large numbers of females who have had the more gentle aspects of civilization trained out of them.

Considering our patriarchal society is largely based on large numbers of men who have had the more gentle aspects of civilization trained out of them, I think it is a reasonable concern.

Somebody else argued that making females eligible to the draft would increase opposition to drafting in a general sense. That to me seems a risky ploy, and one our civilization may end up regretting deeply before it is said and done.

I say no to both because male or female, war is shit. But I would gladly volunteer knowing full well that it was my death sentence if it meant that the gov't would relinquish my twin sister or my girlfriend from having to go if they don't want to.

I agree. War is shit and a draft is tantamount to slavery. I think there should be a universal refusal to register. Hmm, still, I would volunteer to save my son from being forcibly inducted. If anyone made the offer to "save" me though, I would have fits. I am such a hypocrite when it comes to martyrdom.

heh, yeah my sister would probably wrestle with me all the way to the recruiting office!
A universal refusal to register would be great but somehow I fear most people are just going to go along with it. Its like we are all raised to just follow and not question or rock the boat even when its heading over a waterfall and all the other passengers are asleep.
I am sure I would feel very differently if I actually believed in the cause too. But most wars are just poor folk fighting for the expansion of the rich folks wealth.
