Reports: Disney tries to stop release of Moore film

Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore's documentary linking President Bush with powerful Saudi families, including that of Osama bin Laden, is sparking the latest fight within Walt Disney Co.

The film, set to debut at the Cannes film festival later this month, has yet to be released. The New York Times and Hollywood trade paper Daily Variety said in their Wednesday editions that Disney has moved to prevent its Miramax Films unit from distributing "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Nah, Just get someone (Mr. Moore himself even?) to rip the file onto a computer and pirate it all over the internet!

However, the mass-distribution of a copyrighted work on the internet may fall into the area of "copyright violation", but if you get it on a CD from a friend, and make several "backup" copies yourself, THAT is protected by the Audio home recording act ;)

I put my "evil giant media conglomerate disney" hat on when I read the title.. but then I got to the part referenceing controversy over Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ", and how it helped promote the movie.... There will be a bunch of noise about disney "Censoring" Farenheit 9/11, but it will be released anyway amid much controversy, and the multi-millions in profits will be quietly funneled into Disney's bottom line.
