Today, the first thing he did was ask me my name.

Unfortunately, he was late getting to the bus stop; I was already in line to board while he was crossing the street. I sat in an inside seat, but he still sat a seat ahead/adjacent to me. So, we still need to cross that hurdle.

I asked him why he was late, and he said that he usually has a weekly meeting in Ann Arbor and he was going to bum around downtown, but then he decided against it. He didn't really give a reason other than the weather. While this is plausible, it's kind of silly. Why take the bus all the way to Ypsi just to turn back around? Or maybe he skipped his meeting altogether. Any way it's sliced, I'm glad I got to see him.

I smile too much when I'm around him.

Today was our first rather slow/unengaging conversation. We talked about Congress for way too long. (I think part of the problem is that today was a slow news day.) Eventually I asked him what he does for fun, and one of his answers (playing guitar) got us talking about music and the fact that neither of us can sightread. I confessed that when I took guitar lessons, I only learned four out of six strings. It's always good to poke fun at oneself.

So, given that our conversation was a bit soft, I don't know if it was a good trade for him to give up his meeting (or at least his time) to ride the bus tonight. I'm rather bad at conversation. If I had my way, there wouldn't be much need to speak; we could just sit next to each other and hold hands. But we need to sit next to each other first.
