I think, when Democrats get a choice of two men, they'll begin to see the qualities of Edwards that stand out (such as, he could outstyle Bush in any debate, smashingly; he's got that whole JFK thing going on; he's the choice between someone willing to stress his military record (so as to portray himself as a Democratic war president) and someone who is not emphasizing his military record at all.
Bush talks about staying "above the fray". All Edwards has to do is stay below the fray; let Dean et. al. throw stones at Kerry, and let the conservatives prepare for Kerry. Then when Edwards breaks out (and you have no idea how often I think positive thoughts along these lines), it will take the entire presidential race for a loop. The Republicans won't know what to do.
