The Awakening by Kate Chopin affected me greatly when I read it. More than five years later, the feeling that arises in me just reminiscing about it is one of deep fondness. There are some exboyfriends who don't elicit this strong an emotion.

That's a good way for me to keep things in perspective - as much as I thought I wouldn't get over various ex-boyfriends, once I finally did, they were nothing compared to the great books, movies, songs, friends, pets, skylines, memories, etc that have had an effect on me through my life.

No, The Awakening is a piece of literature written in the 1800s. It's now recognized as one of the major feminist writings in American lit, but it lay in obscurity for many years (mostly because of the scandal it created when released and the subsequent ostracization of Chopin in the literary community).

It is one of the most engrossing and moving stories I've ever read.
