The Cure wrote this in 1979.

Killing an Arab

Standing on the beach with a gun in my hand
Staring at the sea, staring at the sand
Staring down the barrel at the Arab on the ground
The sea is in my mouth, but I hear no sound

I'm alive, I'm dead
I'm the stranger killing an Arab

I can turn and walk away or I can fire the gun
Staring at the sky, staring at the sun
Which terror I choose, it amounts to the same
Absolutely nothing

I'm alive, I'm dead
I'm the stranger killing an Arab

I feel the sliver jump--slap--smooth in my hand
Staring at the sea, staring at the sand
Staring at myself reflected in the eyes of the dead man on the beach

I'm alive, I'm dead
I'm the stranger killing an Arab

Wasn't it written after Albert Camus' "The Stranger?"

You might be right. I was using the date in the liner notes.

I didn't mean that the date of the song may be incorrect... I meant to convey that I think "The Cure" tried to model it after the book.

Now I need to be educated about the book.
