Why hasn't mad cow scared Americans?
This was the basic question I saw in a recent news headline.
My response: Beef to an American is like cocaine to a lab rat.

Date: 2004-01-15 08:24 am (UTC)Actually, when Mad Cow was a scare in Britain, nobody really knew for sure *how* easy it was to get BSE from a cow. There were very large numbers of cows coming down with the disease, and given the long incubation period, there were projections that millions of people would wind up with it. And there were only a couple hundred cases.
You're more likely to be jailed as a terrorist in American than a Brit was to get something from eating a 'mad cow'!
