Choosing each word, each phrase is like considering a chess move.
This is especially true when considering form.
I came up with this simile after thinking about the thought process I went through coming up with my acrostic sonnet. Not that the acrostic is very noticeable, but just having that as part of the form changed the way I constructed the poem. I began to see portions of the line the way I imagine chess players envision files.
(F was a state chess champion. Have I ever mentioned that? I'm sure that association informs my metaphor, too.)
