I've been instructed recently to observe a heart-healthy diet. In the ensuing near-month, I have done a good job of altering certain elements of my diet, though I still have an inordinate attachment to chocolate.

What's the most unhealthy item in your diet?

Aren't those so decadent? I recall wine & cheese parties with quite a bit of fondness.

The first year I was gluten-free I replaced all whole grains with wine and cheese. I finally stopped feeling hungry, LOL.

Cheese, without a doubt.

You & [livejournal.com profile] pnkrokhockeymom zero in on another area that trips me up. I love cheese. I don't quite know how I'm going to give that up.

I think I'm going to have to limit my intake, instead of renouncing it altogether. Already, I have switched from regular cream cheese to light. However, I have tried the fat-free cheeses (such as they are), & I am not impressed. I'm surprised they qualify as actual food.

I know that cheese, along with meat, are luxury foods, so I don't need them to satisfy nutritional values. I could eat legumes or yogurt instead for protein or calcium, respectively. Perhaps I will get to a point where I realize the luxury for what it is & finally excise it from my intake.

*nods* I try to stick with it as a garnish, much like meat is for me these days. Fat free cheeses are...blech. Low fat isn't bad, particularly part skim mozzarella.

I try to remember that cheese is concentrated milk, and as such is a very dense and filling food item. It helps me to moderate it to a degree but I adore cheese so much that the total often sneaks up on me. ;)

Do you bake a lot? Also, do you make the frosting from scratch?

Unless it's something that could kill you immediately, like puffer fish, I don't consider any particular food to be universally "unhealthy."

Cheese, chocolate, bacon- whatever. All good in moderation.

I don't believe in the good food/bad food dichotomy.

ETA: if I did believe in good/bad food, it'd be about over-processed food vs. "from scratch" food, not about fat, sugar or calories. However, I even think cheez whiz and Skittles are fine in moderation and are not "bad" or "unhealthy."

*laughs* This is true for me as well. I only count cheese as unhealthy because I sometimes eat so much of it. It actually...er...affects my digestion in very unpleasant ways when I do that. Alas, the amount required to trigger that reaction seem to vary...but I don't want to give it up. ;)
