Just because cell phones exist, that doesn't mean libraries stop being places where people should be as quiet as possible.

As someone who works in a library, I tend to want to beat them with an encyclopedia when they do that crap.

...and even in a few that don't *need* to be, like buses. It got so bad that the local bus company put up advertising signs reminding people to keep their conversations short and reasonably quiet. Because, you know, not everyone has the yearning desire to hear the intimate details of your grandma's colonoscopy or your expletive-laden reaction to your delinquent child's latest drug arrest. (And, given the severity of my hearing impairment, if I can follow your conversation from the other end of the bus, yes, you are TALKING TOO LOUD.)
