Super Bowl XLIV was most watched program in history -- "The Super Bowl was watched by more than 106 million people, surpassing the 1983 finale of M*A*S*H to become the most-watched program in television history."

Were you part of history?

If sitting on my couch and eating cheesy puffs counts, sure.

The Super What? Oh, that thing that had the Catholics facing off against the young horses. Right. Nope, not a clue.

I was on a train!

It was a great game! A shame you didn't see it.

Do you like football at all? If so, you might want to see highlights or a complete review. The game was action-packed.

Nah, not really into sports of any kind I'm afraid.

Yes. Mind you I'm one of the weirdos that watches the game for the football and not the commercials, etc.

It was a good game. I'm happy for Saints fans, it's a nice civic boost for people who are into it.

Not even the obscure ones?

I'm one of those strange types who will thoroughly enjoy watching ice skating, gymnastics, bowling and curling.

I watch for both the sport and the ads. It's all good as far as I'm concerned.

It's funny, because I'm normally quite anti-capitalism. Chatting with [livejournal.com profile] lameautarch, I realized that I'm pretty okay giving ad agencies a pass during the Superbowl because it's part and parcel. [livejournal.com profile] lameautarch, on the other hand, was even more anti-advertising than usual. He and I had a long conversation about whether one can innoculate oneself against advertising at all. We agree it's insidious and influences people to purchase irrationally. Still, for the Superbowl, it's just part of the viewing experience, IMO.

At 9:00 PM we switched the channel to HBO to watch Big Love and missed most of the second half. But we're glad the Saints won.

who dat.
We were very sad for the midatlantic peoples who had no power due to heavy snow. They missed the game. We speculated that it would make a dent in viewership, but I guess not.

I generally don't get into spectator team sports because I don't see any reason to favor one team over another. I'm a lot more likely to get into individual sports where I think a competitor is cool (or just attractive, to be honest).

And figure skating, gymnastic, luge and skeleton, bobsledding, ski jump and the big snowboarding half-pipe runs are good to watch for the sheer spectacle of it. Can you tell I like the winter olympics better than summer?
Summer might start to catch up if they did men's parallel uneven bars, though.

And diving. I don't know how I forgot to mention that.

Platform more so than springboard.

I've not heard any word-of-mouth for Big Love. How long have you been watching it, and would you recommend it?

Wow. I realized that the East Coast had gotten hammered with a blizzard, but for some reason I hadn't considered a possible blackout. That makes the viewership numbers even more impressive.

I think there's a rather practical reason why men's uneven bars is an event that doesn't exist.

What, testicles? I'm not a gymnast, but it seems like that would be less of a problem there than it is for the pommel horse.
