[Error: unknown template qotd]Anyone who has followed my journal for any length of time knows how important politics are to me.
I am a pacifistic feminist who is against capital punishment. All the civil liberties enshrined in the Bill of Rights (and more besides) I support and defend.
In 2003, I met with like minds in the heart of Ann Arbor to protest the impending (and in my view, illegal) war in Iraq. In January 2006, with the help of MoveOn.org, I participated in the march on Washington to protest an increase of troops in Iraq. During the midterm elections of the same year, I volunteered to phone citizens across the country on behalf of candidates in their regions. To me, putting liberals in Congress symbolized my opposition to the egregious civil rights violations executed under the Bush administration.
I'm pleased that Stephen Colbert recently reminded his viewing audience of Benjamin Franklin's statement that those who would sacrifice liberty for the sake of security deserve neither. More need to heed his sagacity.
