I was surprised to learn recently that having had malaria makes a person more likely to become HIV positive if exposed.

I didn't know that fact myself. I wonder if that's true because both utilize similar proteins in order to access the cell or because of some other factor (such as shape).

How hard can it be to kill one fucking virus? I bet they have a cure.

I doubt it. However, a cynic would reply that a company can make hand over fist with treatments but almost next to nothing with a vaccine.
