I would much rather see prosecution of credit companies for charging usurious interest rates. Several states, including MN, have laws on the books covering this, but the are not enforced. For example, my credit card (on which I have been late exactly once three years ago) is jacking up my APR to 24%. I pay on-time and in full every month, so for me it's more the principle of thing rather than any concrete impact on me. But I'm still considering closing the account in protest.
One of my credit cards is doing the same thing (it's likely the same company), and we have never been late and pay the full balance every month. They're just waiting for us to slip up. I've been meaning to shop for another card company; thanks for the reminder. I don't think we should all just passively accept this.
