One member of my family has already died from AIDS, and another close family member is infected with HIV. The fact that someone finds the virus attractive is just something I can't grasp. I usually try to see things from the other point of view, but I just can't relate to that concept.

That is very disturbing. There's a paradoxical link I think between the acknowledgement of one's sexual orientation and the freedom one gains from it on the one hand, and self-destructive licentiousness on the other. So many don't consciously pursue HIV infection, but wouldn't be at all surprised if they happened to have it.
