I totally believe the light thing. I like my bedroom DARK. On vacation, we stayed in a room that was considerably lighter at night (blinds didn't block all the light, room had a bright alarm clock, etc.) than I'm used to, and I didn't sleep well. I didn't appreciate how well our blinds block light in the bedroom until I got home!
The article points out that light not only interrupts sleep but also causes symptoms of clinical depression. Did you feel down during your vacation or since?
