CNN is showing a newsclip about a company that makes beer out of rainwater. The brewery is powered by vegetable oil, apparently. The employees tout this as the making of "green beer". I generally am not impressed by green beer, whether or not it's advertised as being better for the environment. (I'm not impressed by beer at all, really.)
Last week, I didn't post about William Safire's passing. As a grammarian and lover of English, I am saddened, Mr. Safire's antagonism toward liberalism notwithstanding.
Mr. Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Some folks claim sour grapes, saying it's too early in his presidency for him truly to qualify--he just hasn't done enough, they say. However, the tone in the country (despite tea parties and yelling matches at town halls) and the world in total has improved tremendously. I'm glad that the Nobel committee has approved his vision. Also, I think this award will erase the insipid criticism that he "failed" to bring the Olympics to Chicago. The tally sheet for his international efforts has been balanced if not tilted into the black.
