"Much of the increase is attributed to better reporting of the disease, which is often quickly treated with antibiotics without being confirmed by blood tests."

This is completely false (the "often quickly treated" part), but I am glad to see the story and to know about the increased funding.

Thank you for posting. xo

I am sorry, but you are the ONLY black woman I know, that does not behave that way (as far as I can tell). I have worked with thousands of black female nurses, and I would say 80-90% were just like this, regardless of age or size. This commercial was geared toward them.
To me, this is more of a statement of either the way our media wants black women to remain materialistic and shallow, or perhaps a statement of the evolution of modern people in general.

You should read the comments to the article. One reader suggests that the commercial really wasn't geared toward black women but rather to people who hold the stereotype.

In the '50s, I'm sure there were thousands of black females working as servants in white households. The problem was the perpetuation of the stereotype in television programs and the films of that era, which suggested that such women were only to be in that context and that the behavior they exhibited was universal.

The perfume thing makes me giggle. I'm sorry they were all sick, but i've been complaining about invasive scents in the workplace for years. I had a co-worker at STN who would *burn a scented candle* in her office. Um, scent nightmare and fire hazard, all in one!
