House impeaches Texas judge accused of sex crimes

U.S. District Judge Samuel B. Kent of Texas pleaded guilty in February, admitting he lied to investigators about nonconsensual sexual contact with two employees in his courthouse. As part of a plea agreement, other counts alleging sexual misconduct were dropped.

Kent was the first federal judge to be charged with sexual crimes while in office.

He has submitted his resignation, but made it effective June 1, 2010, meaning he would be paid for a year while in prison.

I have been sitting here wondering in light of Kent's admissions of alcohol abuse in his letter to the Judicial Committee that has voted impeach this judge if this is going to be cause for reversal of decisions in recent years that he has made on the bench? Would this not be a reason to appeal decisions made by him? A lack of judgment caused by drug abuse could be reason for appeals?

I'm not certain, but I think that individuals would have to show just cause, like if the judge had fallen asleep or another instance of obvious derilection or neglect. However, I'm not a lawyer, so I may be mistaken.
