I agree - and I'm more than a little disgusted that the President hasn't stepped up on this.

I don't quite understand why he hasn't done so, except either to protect his friends (Pelosi et al.) or himself in the future when he expects himself to do something similar.

Yeah, I think this is the source of the hold-up: there are Democrats who would get zapped by a torture prosecution probe, so they are fighting one. I think there is a lot of momentum going against the resisters, though.
